نبات قصير سريع النمو موطنه الأصلي البرازيل. ويزرع بوصفه نباتاًموسمياً لإعطاء اللون. وله المقدرة على تحمل كل الظروف الموجودة بدول شبه الجزيرة العربية . وكثيراً ما يستخدم بوصفه نبات تحديد وفي ملءالفراغات الموجودة بين النباتات الأخرى. ويصل ارتفاعه حتى 15 سم فقط. وله سوق عصيرية وأوراق أسطوانية، ويبلغ طولها حوالي 3 سم وتوجد علىالنبات إما متبادلة أو في شكل مجموعات صغيرة ولها قمة مسننة. والأزهارصغيرة تشبه أزهار الورد ولها محيط من الأوراق عند قاعدتها. والأزهار لهاألوان ساطعة جداً تشمل الوردي والأحمر الأرجواني والبرتقالي والأحمروالأصفر والأبيض. ومن صفات الأزهار أنها تتفتح فقط تحت ضوء الشمسالكامل طيلة فصل الصيف وبعده. والنباتات تتحمل الحرارة والجفاف ولكنهاتكون أكثر جاذبية في حالة الري المنتظم. ويجب تفادي الري بالرش لأنهيتلف الأزهار وينمو هذا النبات في الترب الفقيرة، والرملية أو ذاتالمحتوى العالي من الحصى مع جودة الصرف. ويتم الإكثار بالبذرة أوالعقل كما يمكن تقطيع النبات إلى قطع صغيرة تنشر على تربة رملية طميةحيث تكون كل قطعة نباتاً جديداً. وعادة لا تشكل الآفات أي مشكلة لكنالنباتات يمكن أن تتلف جراء الصقيع. وصيانة هذا النبات تتمثل في نظافةالحشائش وإحلال النباتات بعد انقضاء فترتها على الأرض. ويستخدم هذاالنبات مغطياً للتربة في الحدائق صغيرة المساحة وفي البيوت والمنحدراتوالحدائق الصخرية وزراعته في الأواني.
